We occasionally hear from other healthcare professionals who ask why they can’t join our community for doctors, Permission to Thrive. It’s a fair question, and we want to answer it properly.
Here’s the short version: Permission to Thrive offers peer support for doctors in a doctors-only community. Members get protected time to stop, reflect and be with other doctors who understand the work without needing it explained.
Many of the things we talk about are shared across healthcare: overwhelm, burnout, responsibility, difficult working conditions, boundaries and the struggle to switch off.
Permission to Thrive is doctors-only because the community itself is part of what people join for. Again and again, our members tell us they value having protected time with other doctors who “get it”.
They don’t need to explain the weight of clinical responsibility, the expectations that come with being a doctor or the culture of medicine before getting to the conversation that matters.
There is also something valuable about stepping outside your usual workplace. One member described appreciating “the anonymity of not having my colleagues on the group”. Another called it “the right place to acknowledge you as a human despite being a doctor”.
That is the space we have chosen to protect.
Doctors don’t deserve support more than nurses, pharmacists or anyone else working in healthcare. Permission to Thrive has been designed around one particular professional community, and that specificity is part of what members tell us makes it valuable.
If you’re a nurse, pharmacist, allied health professional or healthcare manager, there are other ways to get support from us.
Shapes Academy is open to healthcare professionals and leaders from across the system.
FrogFest Virtual is our biannual half-day online symposium for professionals in high-stakes, high-pressure roles. Each event focuses on a different pressure, from overwhelm and people-pleasing to self-doubt, with practical tools you can use straight away.
Permission to Thrive has a different job: to give doctors a place to stop, reflect and be with other doctors who understand the context without needing it explained.
